A Weird Day...

Sat Aug 16, 2008, 6:30 PM
Since this is an online journal that people can view, I don't know if I'm supposed to write "Dear Journal" or not, so I'm going to leave that to your imagination.

Well, anyway, today was a REALY weird day...

It all started like any other southern day, sunny, hot, humid, all the things that it is down here. Not a cloud in the sky. Well, anyway, Around noon today, my family and I went to town to pick up some fish plates and some other things we needed to go on a fishing trip to Louisiana. While we were in town, we noticed some dark clouds on the horizon, and since it's been raining a lot (it is hurricane season after all) we decided to postpone our trip 'til tomorrow (Sunday August 17).

Well, on our way home, on the highway, we saw the police car sitting up ahead, and the two vehicles that had a wreck. Couldn't really tell much, but there was a gravel truck on one side of the road, and a family on the other side of the road, and the teenage boy was crying. I guess he was scared.

We got home and the rain started. It poured, like someone had cut a hole in the bottom of the clouds. After the rain subsided, my grandmother called because she needed something from town, so my mother and I left my dad and brother at home and went to town to pick it up for her. (She is 77 years old and has liver and pancreatic cancer, so she can't get around on her own too well with the chemotherapy treatments going on)

On our way BACK into town, an ambulance came flying around the curve up ahead and turned onto Caesar Road. Being a soft-hearted person, I immeadiately feel bad, and I tell my mom that I hope no one got hurt too bad, that whoever it was that they were going to get would be okay after they got some medical treatment.

We ran in Walmart and picked up my grandmother's medicine. The store and parking lot was really crowded, so it took us forever to get out of the store and to our car and we saw the ambulence that had gone down Caeser Road headed back to the hospital.

We were minding our own business, listening to some oldies tunes on the radio, when we heard it, the unmistakeable sound of a fender bender. The second wreck today. The car behind us had hit us while we were trying to get back on the highway. Thank goodness for the trailer hitch my dad had attatched to the car for his boat, or out car might have had some damage. No one was hurt, but (Because I was afraid of lawsuits most likely. We have very little money) I cried (No. I'm not a big baby).

We continued on our way home. I had quit crying by the time we arrived at my grandmother's house, but my mom told me not to say anything to her, just so she wouldn't feel guilty. So my mom sat out in the car while I ran in the house(It had started raining again by this time)to give my grandmother her medicine. When I walked in the door, my grandmother said,"Oh my! I was really worried about y'all. You've been gone so long I thought you'd gotten in a wreck".

Coincidence or not...? That freaked me out... (Keep in mind now that we didn't use a cell phone to call anyone after the accident. We just checked the vehichles and went on our way...)

So, after we got back to our house (and I was crying again because of what she said)we told my dad and brother and turned on the TV to watch the weather channel. (You're probably wondering when this is gonna end... Sorry!)After a while, my grandmother walkes over to our house (She is our next door neighbor, so it's not like it's five miles away. Just a couple of feet)to bring a Boston cream pie to my brother. I'd been wanting her to watch "A Walk to Remember" with me, so I walked her back over to her house and we watched the movie, during which time, my dad went up the road to the neighbor's house to fish in his pond. (He really loves fishing. It's his hobby.)

After the movie,I walked back over to my house. I was just about to crank up my MP3 Player when the phone rang. It was this lady who works with my mom. I handed the phone to her (And I have a really bad problem with eavesdropping. It's about the only thing I'm good at doing.) and I put my earbuds in my ears, but didn't turn the music on. I couldn't hear what the lady on the other line was saying, but I could hear my mother say "Oh my word!" And I knew something bad had happened, so I walked over to where she was and listened to her talk to the lady. I have this really bad problem with assuming things, and judging from what my mom had said (Throughout the whole conversation, which lasted about 3 minutes) I asked, "Who died?" (Not trying to be morbid, but that's exactly what went through my mind when she said "Oh my word".

I was right. Someone did die. And it was really sad too. Remember the ambulence from earlier? Yeah. Two teenage boys had died. The sad thing is, I knew the youngest one from working with him on the Wal Mart christmas parade float. He was only sixteen years old. And his brother had just turned eighteen not too long ago. From what we heard, they had been going too fast and hit a tree, and with the wet roads, I can see the high possibility of their breaks locking up and them sliding off the road. It is really sad when someone dies, but what makes it worse, is when their lives are gone so suddenly, especially at a young age. But we can only hope that God does what he does for a reason.

So, even if you can't see how this was a weird day, I'm still gonna pray for the safety of everyone who reads this. (Even if you are an athiest. Everyone has their own beliefs, and I'm not going to put down on anyone's thoughts and feelings.)

So I hope y'all have a wonderful night and that everything goes alright for you, unlike the tragic story of those two boys. May you be safe as you get to where you're going.
